Pakistan-China defence ties took centre stage as Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir reaffirmed the enduring strategic partnership between the two countries during a ceremony marking the 99th anniversary of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

The event brought together senior military and diplomatic officials from both nations to celebrate the PLA’s founding anniversary and reiterate their commitment to strengthening bilateral defence cooperation. Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong attended the ceremony as the chief guest, alongside Chinese Defence Attaché Major General Wang Zhong, officials from the Chinese Embassy, and senior officers from Pakistan’s armed forces.

More than 100 words into the event, Pakistan-China cooperation remained the central theme as Field Marshal Asim Munir congratulated the PLA on its 99th anniversary and praised its contributions to China’s national defence, economic development, and global peace and security. He said the friendship between Pakistan and China remains unique, time-tested and resilient despite evolving regional and international challenges.

The army chief stated that the Pakistan Armed Forces and the People’s Liberation Army are genuine strategic partners bound by mutual trust, unwavering cooperation and a shared commitment to safeguarding regional peace, stability and common strategic interests.

Addressing the ceremony, Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong commended Pakistan’s armed forces for their sacrifices and contributions in the fight against terrorism. He also thanked Field Marshal Asim Munir for hosting the commemorative event at GHQ.

The ambassador reaffirmed China’s unwavering support for Pakistan and pledged to further strengthen the long-standing All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership between the two countries. He said Beijing remains committed to expanding cooperation with Islamabad across defence and other strategic sectors.

The ceremony reflected the continued momentum in Pakistan-China defence relations, with both sides reaffirming their shared vision for regional stability, enhanced military collaboration and deeper strategic engagement.
