Pakistan vs West Indies headlines the start of Pakistan’s World Test Championship journey as the two teams meet in the opening match of a two-Test series at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad.

The match will also make history as the first men’s Test to be played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.

The second Test is scheduled for August 2 to 6 at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, with both matches carrying valuable World Test Championship points.

Pakistan Confident After Strong Preparation

Pakistan arrive in Trinidad after a successful preparation camp, including an impressive four-day tour match against the West Indies Select XI.

Opener Azan Awais and captain Babar Azam scored centuries during the warm-up fixture, while Shan Masood, Abdullah Fazal, Mohammad Awais Zafar and Salman Ali Agha contributed half-centuries.

Fast bowler Mohammad Ali also impressed by taking a five-wicket haul.

Speaking before the series opener, Babar Azam said the team had used the warm-up match to adjust to Caribbean conditions.

“We are looking forward to the start of the Test series. Playing in the West Indies is always challenging because the conditions are different, and the home side is highly competitive in familiar surroundings,” he said.

He added that Test cricket requires patience, discipline and consistency over five days despite the encouraging performances in the practice match.

Young Players Earn Opportunity

Babar welcomed the inclusion of four uncapped players — Ali Usman, Mohammad Awais Zafar, Ubaid Shah and Mohammad Ghazi Ghori — saying they had earned their places through strong domestic performances.

West Indies Look to Continue Winning Form

The West Indies enter the series with confidence after securing a 1-0 home Test series victory over Sri Lanka earlier this month under new captain Roston Chase.

Head coach Daren Sammy is expected to retain the core of the winning side, with experienced spinner Jomel Warrican likely to play a key role on a pitch expected to assist spin later in the match.

Historically, Pakistan hold a slight advantage in the rivalry. The two teams have met 56 times in Test cricket, with Pakistan winning 22 matches, the West Indies 19, while 15 Tests ended in draws.
