The federal government on Friday raised petrol prices by Rs3.66 per litre and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs4.80 per litre, passing on the impact of higher global oil prices.

Following the latest revision, petrol now costs Rs335.18 per litre, while high-speed diesel is priced at Rs383.46 per litre.

The Petroleum Division said the revised prices will take effect from July 25.

Government Cites Global Oil Market Trends

The government attributed the increase to fluctuations in international oil prices following renewed hostilities in the Persian Gulf.

It is currently collecting Rs110 per litre in taxes and duties on petrol and Rs96 per litre on high-speed diesel.

Diesel prices have fallen significantly from their peak of Rs520.35 per litre recorded on April 3. Petrol prices also remain below their previous high of Rs458.41 per litre, reached on the same date.

Daily Fuel Pricing Policy Introduced

Earlier, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik announced that fuel prices would now be reviewed daily instead of weekly.

He said the federal cabinet had authorised the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) to determine daily fuel prices based on international market movements.

The government had already shifted from fortnightly to weekly fuel price revisions earlier this year because of volatility in global energy markets.

Dealers Oppose New Pricing Mechanism

The All Pakistan Dealers Association rejected the decision to introduce daily fuel pricing and said it would consider launching protests against the policy.

Petrol remains the primary fuel for motorcycles, cars, rickshaws and other private vehicles, meaning price increases directly affect middle- and lower-income households.

High-speed diesel is widely used by heavy transport, agriculture, power plants and industrial generators. Any increase in diesel prices also raises transportation and production costs, contributing to inflation.
