The Gul Plaza fire investigation has slowed after several government departments failed to cooperate with investigators, according to a progress report submitted before a Karachi sessions court on Wednesday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Aamir Waraich, who the court appointed to reinvestigate the case, informed the additional district and sessions judge (South) that multiple public institutions had not responded to official letters or provided officers to assist with the inquiry.

According to the report, the investigating team sent letters to at least eight government bodies, including the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and Rescue 1122. However, none of the institutions replied to the correspondence or answered a questionnaire issued during the investigation.

DSP Waraich told the court that he launched the reinvestigation following judicial orders. He also requested the court to cancel the bail granted to accused Tanveer Pasta and other suspects, alleging that they were interfering with the ongoing investigation.

The report forms part of the continuing court proceedings into the Gul Plaza fire case. The court will hear the matter again at the next scheduled hearing.
