Customized sports fashion has emerged as one of the defining style trends of the summer, blending personal creativity with team pride. From the NBA Finals to the FIFA World Cup, fans and players’ partners embraced handcrafted and personalized outfits instead of traditional jerseys.
The trend gained momentum after Taylor Swift attended the NBA Finals wearing a homemade “Stevie Knicks” T-shirt. Her appearance helped spotlight a growing movement that celebrates individuality through custom game-day fashion.
Supporters across New York and beyond wore embroidered denim, painted jackets, reworked jerseys and handmade T-shirts created by local artists. The movement reflects a broader shift as sports fans increasingly combine fashion with team loyalty.

The FIFA World Cup further accelerated the trend as wives and girlfriends of footballers showcased distinctive outfits featuring embroidered denim, themed corsets and customized tops inspired by their partners.
Fashion brands including Cossa New York, Corteiz and Algoritmo Studios have expanded their sports-inspired collections. Designers are also introducing reimagined jerseys with unique cuts, embellishments and modern tailoring.
Major collaborations, including Willy Chavarria x Adidas and Jacquemus x Nike x France, have reinforced the growing connection between sportswear and luxury fashion.
Kristin Juszczyk, founder of Off Season and wife of San Francisco 49ers player Kyle Juszczyk, believes personalized sports fashion is becoming mainstream.
She said fans no longer want to wear standard jerseys and instead prefer outfits that reflect their personal style while supporting their teams.
Juszczyk predicted that the distinction between everyday clothing and game-day outfits will continue to fade.
German model Laura Abla Schmitt, partner of Spanish footballer Dani Olmo, created several custom looks throughout the FIFA World Cup. Her outfits included a T-shirt featuring Olmo’s childhood football photograph, a slogan top referencing his jersey number and a distressed jacket inspired by his kit.
Her stylist, Morena Verović, said modern sports fashion focuses on individuality rather than following a single aesthetic. She noted that style icons such as Victoria Beckham and Gisele Bündchen each built distinctive public images through personal fashion choices.
Spanish footballer Marc Cucurella’s wife, Claudia Rodrigo, also embraced customized fashion by wearing crystal-embellished jeans, personalized shorts and a hand-painted handbag celebrating Spain.
London-based designer Antonia Bronze, known for creating bespoke leather jackets for athletes and their partners, said demand for customized sportswear has surged. She revealed she received so many requests during the FIFA World Cup that she had to decline some orders.
Bronze believes personalized sports fashion will continue growing as more women attend sporting events and view dressing up as part of the overall experience.
With Formula One, the US Open and the NFL season approaching, custom game-day fashion appears set to remain one of the year’s biggest style trends.
