Pakistani actor Moammar Rana and his wife, Mehnaz, have ended their nearly 28-year marriage after a family court in Lahore granted her khula.
Family Court Judge Zahid Bashir issued the decree in Mehnaz’s favour after hearing arguments from her lawyer, Khadija Siddiqui.
The couple married on October 24, 1998, when Rana was enjoying a successful period in his acting career. They have two daughters together.
Mehnaz had supported her husband’s professional journey and often accompanied him to film industry events.
According to the divorce petition, Mehnaz alleged that Rana physically assaulted her and verbally abused her after consuming alcohol.
She further claimed that he used abusive language in front of their daughters, causing them emotional distress.

The petition also alleged that Rana failed to contribute towards household expenses. It claimed that his behaviour did not improve despite repeated interventions by family members.
Mehnaz told the court that she could no longer continue living with her husband. Therefore, she sought dissolution of the marriage through khula.
After hearing the arguments, the court granted her request.
The court decision comes amid reports of personal and professional difficulties involving Rana in recent years.
In an earlier interview, the actor reportedly disclosed that he had undergone rehabilitation for alcohol addiction. He also acknowledged that his marriage was facing serious difficulties.
The court’s decree brings the couple’s marriage, which began in 1998, to an end after nearly three decades.
The allegations mentioned in the divorce petition are claims made by Mehnaz and should not be treated as independently established findings.
