Pakistan will host Canada for a bilateral hockey series in Islamabad from February 8 to 21, 2027, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced. The planned series aims to help revive international hockey in the country and strengthen sporting ties between the two nations.
The PHF said it would coordinate with the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination and relevant federal authorities to arrange accommodation, transport, sports facilities and security for the visiting Canadian delegation.
PHF President Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani and the federal secretary of the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination welcomed the proposed tour. They described it as an opportunity to promote international hockey in Pakistan and strengthen bilateral sporting relations.
According to the federation, the series will give players and officials from both countries valuable international experience. It will also provide opportunities to exchange knowledge and contribute to the development of hockey.
The planned series forms part of broader efforts to restore Pakistan’s presence on the international hockey calendar. In addition, the PHF aims to attract more foreign teams, increase international competition and encourage young players to take up the sport.
Pakistan was once a dominant force in international hockey. However, the country has been working to rebuild its competitiveness through improved preparation, greater international exposure and stronger player development programmes.
The federation said it was committed to welcoming the Canadian team to Islamabad and ensuring that the series was organised to professional standards.
Meanwhile, the PHF has accepted an invitation for Pakistan to compete in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Malaysia in November 2026.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the federation said the tournament would provide the senior national team with valuable match experience against international opponents. It would also help players improve their technical skills and competitive standards.
Pakistan’s Under-21 team is already in Malaysia to compete in the Sultan of Johor Cup. The tournament offers emerging players an opportunity to test themselves against international opposition and gain experience.

The PHF said it was pursuing a comprehensive development strategy covering the Under-18, Under-21, senior men’s and women’s teams.
The strategy focuses on expanding international exposure, improving coaching and strengthening training facilities. Furthermore, the federation plans to improve financial incentives and support systems for players.
These measures aim to reward performance, promote merit and create a clearer pathway for young talent to progress to the senior national team.
The PHF said regular participation in international competitions, professional coaching and structured player development were essential to restoring Pakistan’s position among the world’s leading hockey nations.
The federation reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening national teams at every level and creating more opportunities for Pakistani players to compete internationally.
