Investors are also assessing the Federal Reserve’s future monetary policy. Minutes from the Fed’s September meeting revealed divisions among policymakers over the rationale for a rate hike.
Market pricing indicated a 21% probability of an October rate hike. The probability of a December increase stood at 88%.
These expectations could influence gold prices in the coming weeks. Investors are watching economic data and central bank signals for clearer direction.
Adnan Agar, director at Interactive Commodities, described the market as “completely sluggish.” He said gold was struggling to establish a clear direction.
According to Agar, bullion was trading within a narrow range. Market participants remained uncertain about whether prices would rise or fall next.
He said further downside pressure remained possible. However, a decline below $4,000 per ounce appeared unlikely without major economic data or unexpected news triggering fresh selling.
Agar expects a clearer trading range to emerge in the coming days. Investors will be looking for fresh economic signals to guide their decisions.
Meanwhile, domestic silver prices moved lower on Thursday. The price of silver fell by Rs120 per tola to Rs6,368.
