Pakistan to Receive Qatar LNG Cargo Within Three to Five Days

Pakistan is expected to receive an LNG shipment from Qatar within the next three to five days, officials said.

The LNG carrier Al Mafyar crossed the Strait of Hormuz and entered Omani waters on Tuesday, according to officials familiar with the development.

The vessel is a Q-Max LNG carrier. Pakistan will likely receive the cargo through ship-to-ship transfers during the journey.

Smaller Vessel to Transport LNG to Pakistan

Officials said a smaller vessel, potentially named Ejnan, could carry the LNG shipment to Pakistan within three to five days.

Pakistan plans to arrange two smaller vessels to receive the cargo from the Q-Max carrier.

Officials described the shipment as the first LNG cargo Pakistan arranged from Qatar with reported assistance from Iranian authorities.

Pakistan may also arrange another LNG cargo from Qatar soon, officials said.

Qatar LNG Cargo Secured Despite Force Majeure

QatarEnergy has extended its force majeure until November. Despite the disruption, Pakistani authorities secured the latest LNG cargo after engaging with Iran’s senior leadership.

The cargo carries a price equivalent to 13.37% of Brent, according to officials.

Officials said Pakistan would avoid immediate spot purchases if it secures two additional LNG cargoes for October.

High Spot LNG Prices Raise Costs

Spot LNG prices currently range between $28 and $30 per MMBtu.

Officials estimate that one LNG cargo could cost around $100 million at current prices. They said such costs would put significant pressure on Pakistan’s finances.

Pakistan secured two LNG cargoes from Qatar in September. The first shipment arrived on September 10. The second reached Pakistan on September 23.
