Al-Sayed University is set to be established in Karachi as the Sir Syed Foundation moves ahead with plans to expand higher education opportunities in the city.
Engineer Anwar Ali, President of the Sir Syed Foundation and a former first-class cricketer, announced the plan at a ceremony held at Naya Nazim Gymkhana.
Ali said Karachi needs more universities to meet the growing demand for higher education. He noted that limited opportunities make it difficult for many young people to pursue advanced studies.
According to Ali, the foundation has completed the initial groundwork for the project. The foundation stone of Al-Sayed University will be laid soon.
The institution will initially offer seven faculties. Its stated aim is to provide modern education in Karachi and reduce the need for students to travel abroad for higher studies.
“We have completed our groundwork and will soon share this good news with the students of Karachi,” Ali said.
Consultations with like-minded individuals are continuing, while work is also progressing on the university’s legal framework.
Ali said the university’s charter would be presented before the Sindh Assembly for approval.
Former Pakistan Hockey Federation Secretary Haider Hussain welcomed the initiative. He said Karachi urgently needs new educational institutions and called for opportunities that support students’ academic and physical development.
