KARACHI, September 29, 2026: Umar Ahsan Khan, CEO and Managing Director of Dawlance (Private) Limited, has been elected President of the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI).
The result was announced during the Chamber’s Extra-Ordinary General Meeting on Tuesday.
Ahmed Zahid Zaheer, Country Chairman and General Manager of Chevron Lubricants Pakistan (Private) Limited, was elected Senior Vice President.
Dr Syed Amir Ali, President and CEO of Meezan Bank Limited, was elected Vice President.
Khan succeeds Yousaf Hussain, who led OICCI during the 2024-26 term.
Outgoing President Yousaf Hussain welcomed progress towards economic stability.
However, he said stabilisation alone would not be enough.
He called for stronger investment, exports and productivity to turn economic gains into sustainable growth.
Hussain also highlighted the need for greater job creation as Pakistan seeks to improve its economic outlook.
Umar Ahsan Khan said OICCI would continue to base its advocacy on research and evidence.
“Our advocacy must remain constructive, credible and evidence-based,” Khan said.
He said the Chamber should not only identify problems but also present practical solutions.
Khan added that OICCI would work with the government and other stakeholders to help implement those solutions.
Khan highlighted the decline in foreign direct investment during the last financial year.
According to the figures cited by OICCI, FDI fell 34 per cent to $1.65 billion.
Khan said economic stability could help place Pakistan on investors’ shortlists.
However, he stressed that the broader investment environment would ultimately influence investment decisions.
“Macroeconomic stabilisation may get a country onto an investor’s shortlist, but it is the broader investment environment that ultimately determines whether capital is committed,” he said.
The new Managing Committee will strengthen engagement with government departments and regulators.
It will also deepen interaction with international institutions.
OICCI plans to expand its data-driven research and policy advocacy during the new term.
The Chamber will also continue its work on climate, diversity and inclusion.
Technology and artificial intelligence will remain among its areas of focus.
The newly elected Managing Committee includes:
The new leadership will serve for the 2026-28 term.
