Pakistan Volleyball Team Faces Wrong-Venue Mix-Up at Asian Games

Logistical problems at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games continued on Monday after Pakistan’s volleyball team was taken to the wrong venue before its Pool A match against Uzbekistan.

Pakistan captain Murad Jehan criticised the incident in a video posted on Instagram.

He said the team’s bus driver did not know which gymnasium was hosting their match.

“We have a very important match and the bus driver doesn’t know which gymnasium we are going to play,” Jehan said.

He added that the bus initially travelled to the wrong gymnasium, leaving the team short of preparation time.

“It’s an embarrassing situation. We did not expect this from Japan,” Jehan said.

Wrong Venue Leaves Pakistan Short of Warm-Up Time

Jehan said the detour affected the team’s preparations before the important Pool A fixture.

The players had little time for a proper warm-up after reaching the correct venue.

According to the captain, some players had to change into their playing kits while still on the moving bus.

He described the situation as another example of logistical problems faced by athletes at the Games.

Jehan also raised concerns about food availability.

He said meals were not always available to athletes in dining areas after training sessions.

The Games organisers had not immediately responded to a Reuters request for comment.

Pakistan Still Beat Uzbekistan 3-0

Despite the disruption, Pakistan produced a strong performance once the team reached the correct venue.

Pakistan defeated Uzbekistan 3-0 at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Gymnasium.

The victory was Pakistan’s second consecutive win in the volleyball competition.

The team therefore moved forward in the tournament despite the difficulties faced before the match.

Asian Games Organisers Face Logistical Pressure

The incident adds to wider concerns about logistics at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.

The chief organiser apologised on Saturday for widespread operational problems.

Organisers said a late arrival of around 2,000 additional athletes and team officials had placed unexpected pressure on preparations.

The influx reportedly overwhelmed some parts of the Games’ logistical planning.

Pakistan’s volleyball team is now expected to continue its campaign while organisers work to address the issues affecting athletes.
