KARACHI, September 8, 2026: The University of Karachi Academic Council has approved the admissions policy for 2027. It has also approved the start of the new academic year from December 15, 2026.

The decisions were taken during a meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Tufail on Tuesday.

The council also discussed several academic and administrative matters during the session.

KU Approves 2027 Admissions

The Academic Council approved the admissions policy for the year 2027. It also confirmed December 15, 2026, as the start of the new academic year.

The decisions are part of the university’s academic planning for the upcoming year.

Council members also reviewed several matters related to examinations, academic governance and affiliated colleges.

Affiliated College Exams Deferred

The council decided to defer the implementation of affiliated college examinations under the biannual system for one year.

It also approved the formation of a committee for the matter. The committee will include faculty members from the University of Karachi and its affiliated colleges.

The committee will prepare recommendations within three months. It will then present them at the next Academic Council meeting.

The university said affiliated college examinations will move to the semester system from the coming year.

New Representatives Nominated

The Academic Council approved Professor Dr Naeem Ahmed as its representative on the Board of Governors of the Pakistan Studies Centre.

It also approved Professor Dr Amena Zahra Ali as the council’s representative member for the position of Secretary of the Affiliation Committee.

These appointments will support the university’s academic and administrative coordination with the relevant bodies.

Academic Proceedings Ratified

The council also ratified the proceedings of its meeting held on February 24, 2026.

It endorsed the minutes of the Board of the Faculty of Science meeting held on January 12, 2026.

The council further approved proceedings from several academic bodies. These included the Board of the Faculty of Education meeting held on March 30, 2026.

It also approved the proceedings of the Board of Advanced Studies and Research meeting held on December 29, 2025.

The Equivalence Committee meeting held on June 30, 2026, was also approved.
