KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has urged the federal government to speed up work on the long-delayed Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway.

Memon said the project holds major importance for Sindh and should receive the same attention as the planned upgrade of the 480-kilometre Karachi-Rohri railway track.

He made the remarks in a statement on Friday while stressing the need for better transport links across the province.

Motorway seen as key to economic growth

Memon said stronger road connections between Sindh’s major cities and its industrial and commercial centres could support economic growth.

He said the motorway would make travel easier and help businesses move goods more efficiently.

The project could also strengthen trade links between different parts of Sindh.

According to Memon, completing the route would improve connectivity while creating new opportunities for businesses and local communities.

Trade and agriculture could benefit

Memon said the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway could support several key sectors of the provincial economy.

He highlighted trade, agriculture and industry as areas that could benefit from improved road infrastructure.

Better connectivity could help farmers and businesses move products to markets more quickly. It could also encourage greater commercial activity along the route.

“Completion of the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway will not only improve connectivity between different parts of Sindh but also promote trade, agriculture and industry while creating employment opportunities,” Memon said.

Call for faster federal action

The minister’s comments add to calls for progress on the long-delayed road project.

He urged the federal government to expedite the work and improve connectivity between Sindh’s major economic centres.

The proposed motorway is expected to play an important role in linking northern and southern parts of the province.

Memon said better transport infrastructure would help Sindh strengthen its economic activity and create more employment opportunities.
