KARACHI: Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi met Qatar’s Consul General Naif Shaheen Al-Sulaiti in Karachi on Thursday, with the two sides discussing regional developments, diplomatic coordination and opportunities to strengthen economic relations between Pakistan and Qatar. The Pakistan Qatar relations were described as particularly important amid the current regional situation, with the governor stressing the need for continued diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
Hashmi said close diplomatic communication between Pakistan and Qatar was essential as tensions continued to affect the region. He emphasised that lasting peace could only be achieved by giving priority to dialogue and diplomacy rather than relying on force.
The governor also praised Qatar’s diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions and encouraging negotiations.
Hashmi said Pakistan and Qatar were playing a constructive role in supporting regional peace, stability and de-escalation.

He said the two countries should continue coordinating their efforts to encourage peaceful solutions to regional disputes and promote dialogue among concerned parties.
The governor described Qatar’s diplomatic initiatives to reduce tensions and facilitate negotiations as commendable, adding that diplomatic engagement remained critical to preventing further escalation.
He stressed that sustainable peace in the region required countries to prioritise political solutions and negotiations.
The meeting also focused on strengthening economic and investment cooperation.
Hashmi said Sindh, particularly Karachi, offered extensive opportunities for Qatari investors across several sectors.
He identified energy, infrastructure, technology, agriculture, food security and tourism as areas where Pakistan and Qatar could develop new avenues for cooperation.
The governor said greater investment and economic collaboration could benefit both countries while creating opportunities for employment, business development and economic activity in Sindh.
Karachi’s position as Pakistan’s major commercial centre, he added, made the city an important destination for international investors seeking opportunities in diverse sectors.
Qatar’s Consul General Naif Shaheen Al-Sulaiti reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to strengthening the longstanding brotherly relationship between the two countries.
He said cooperation would continue at all levels to further deepen ties between Pakistan and Qatar.
The two sides discussed the importance of maintaining close engagement and exploring new areas of bilateral cooperation.
The meeting comes as Islamabad and Doha continue to emphasise diplomatic coordination, regional stability and stronger economic partnerships.
The discussions also highlighted the potential for expanding Qatar’s engagement with Sindh, particularly through investment in infrastructure, energy, technology, agriculture, food security and tourism.
