ISLAMABAD, August 21, 2026: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan returned to Adiala Jail after undergoing a medical examination at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said on Friday.
Tarar said authorities took Imran to PIMS instead of Shifa International Hospital because of the security situation around Shifa. Doctors from Shifa also joined the medical team during the examination.
A team including an ophthalmologist, cardiologist and physician examined Imran and declared him medically fit, according to the minister.
Tarar said PTI workers had gathered along the route and outside Shifa Hospital, creating security concerns. Authorities therefore shifted the examination to PIMS.
He said Imran’s sister, Uzma Khan, remained present throughout the examination and treatment process.
After the medical process ended, authorities returned Imran to Adiala Jail at around 5am on August 21, Tarar said.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry also confirmed that a specialist medical board examined Imran and found his condition stable.

The development followed a Supreme Court order issued on August 18 directing the government to move Imran to Shifa International Hospital for treatment for several days.
The court also ordered the government to arrange weekly meetings between Imran and his family. It directed that his personal physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, receive access to him.
The court further ordered the formation of a medical board comprising an eye specialist, general physician and cardiologist, along with Dr Sultan.
The government had initially challenged the Supreme Court’s decision through a review petition, describing the order as discriminatory.
Imran’s lawyers and PTI leaders had criticised the government over delays in implementing the court’s directive. Security forces later deployed heavily around Shifa Hospital, with several roads temporarily closed.
PTI leaders also urged party workers not to gather outside the hospital in accordance with the Supreme Court’s instructions against political activity or media conferences at the facility.
The Supreme Court also directed Imran’s family and lawyers not to disclose his medical reports to the media.
The court ordered that the reports remain confidential and should not become part of political activity. It also directed authorities to facilitate telephone conversations between Imran and his children.
The court warned that it could withdraw its directives if the parties failed to follow its instructions.
