Pakistan on Monday strongly condemned remarks by India’s defence minister on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, warning that India must not underestimate Pakistan’s determination to counter any “adventurism.” The Foreign Office (FO) said the Kashmir remarks misrepresented internationally recognized facts and reflected New Delhi’s policy of undermining regional peace.

According to the FO, the Indian minister’s comments distorted the internationally recognized status of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, which remains on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The ministry said the remarks were highly provocative and irresponsible.

The FO also accused India of attempting to divert attention from its own actions in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), as well as allegations of sponsoring terrorism and facing internal instability.

Pakistan rejected what it described as India’s aggressive rhetoric and warned that the country remains fully prepared to defend its sovereignty. The Foreign Office said Pakistan had already demonstrated its resolve during Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos last year.

The statement urged the international community, particularly the United Nations, to take notice of India’s conduct and hold New Delhi accountable for failing to implement relevant UNSC resolutions that guarantee the right to self-determination for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Foreign Office reiterated that the Kashmir dispute remains an internationally recognized issue and cannot be changed through unilateral statements or political rhetoric.

The statement came a day after Defence Minister Khawaja Asif also rejected similar remarks by his Indian counterpart, Rajnath Singh. Asif said India’s statements could neither alter the internationally recognized disputed status of IIOJK nor change established legal realities.

Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions and international law.
