Transporters came into focus during a meeting between Governor Sindh Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi and Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance President Malik Shehzad Awan, where both sides discussed the challenges facing the transport sector and explored ways to strengthen cooperation with the government.
During the meeting, Governor Sindh urged transporters to support the government’s difficult policy decisions, stressing that national interest must remain the top priority. He said the transport sector plays a vital role in Pakistan’s economy and called for continued cooperation to help maintain economic stability.
The two sides held detailed discussions on rising petroleum prices, toll taxes, withholding tax, and other issues affecting transport operators across the country.

Malik Shehzad Awan told the governor that transporters continue to provide essential services despite financial losses, particularly during periods of heightened security and conflict. He said the industry remains committed to ensuring the uninterrupted movement of goods nationwide.
He requested relief in toll taxes and withholding tax while urging the government to implement commitments made under the agreement reached in December.
Governor Sindh assured the delegation that he would raise the transporters’ concerns with the federal government and advocate practical solutions to ease the burden on the industry.
Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi said every possible effort would be made to resolve the transport sector’s issues, recognizing its critical contribution to Pakistan’s supply chain and economic activity.
Malik Shehzad Awan thanked the governor for listening to the delegation’s concerns and appreciated his assurance that the issues would be taken up with the relevant authorities.
