The new verification system requires users to record a short video selfie. Facebook will compare the video with the profile photos on the user’s account to confirm that the account belongs to the same person.
According to the company, the verification process takes only a few minutes and does not require a paid subscription.
To qualify for the new verification badge, users must be at least 18 years old.
Meta said accounts must also comply with Facebook’s community policies and remain free from fraud, deception or misleading activities. The company will reject applications if it detects suspicious or unauthentic behaviour.
Meta confirmed that Facebook Pages and Professional Mode accounts are currently not eligible for the programme.
The company is introducing the feature in phases across selected countries before expanding it to users worldwide.
Users who do not yet see the verification option on their accounts may receive access in future rollout stages.
