Noreen Gulwani has urged women not to become self-centred after achieving financial independence, while calling on men to treat women with respect to build healthier relationships.

Speaking in a recent interview, the actor reflected on gender dynamics, marriage, career choices and her passion for theatre.

Financial independence should not create ego

Gulwani said earning an income should not make women arrogant or dismissive of others.

She acknowledged that financial independence can sometimes change attitudes after years of social suppression.

“Women should not be egotistical just because they are earning,” she said.

However, she stressed that men also have a responsibility to treat women with kindness and respect.

She said women are less likely to feel oppressed when they are valued and spoken to respectfully.

Waiting for the right partner

Gulwani said she has chosen not to marry until she meets someone who shares her values.

She explained that she takes time to understand people’s personalities before making such an important decision.

The actor also encouraged young people to spend their 20s discovering themselves instead of following social expectations.

She said society often pressures people to work, marry and have children without giving them time to understand who they truly are.

Dream of a life closer to nature

Gulwani revealed that her priorities have changed over the years.

She said she now hopes to raise her future children in a natural environment rather than in a large city.

The actor added that she wants to limit her children’s exposure to screens and hopes to find a partner who shares the same vision.

Journalism was not the right career

Before entering acting, Gulwani studied journalism and broadcasting abroad.

She said she later realised the profession did not match her personality because of its demanding pace.

Although she wanted to study creative writing, she could not find a suitable academic programme at the time.

Theatre remains her greatest passion

Gulwani described theatre as her favourite form of acting because it requires constant energy and quick thinking.

She recalled improvising during a recent stage performance after a planned scene did not go as expected.

The experience, she said, highlighted the unique challenges of live theatre.

Responding to public controversies

Asked about singer Falak Shabir’s remarks on women’s clothing, Gulwani said she disagreed with his views but chose not to respond publicly.

She said social media arguments rarely change opinions and prefers to stay away from online disputes.

Gulwani concluded by encouraging people to take breaks, contribute positively to society and pursue work that brings them fulfilment.

She also said she hopes to return to the stage with more theatre productions in the future.

Known for her performances in Bakhtawar, Pyari Mona, Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri and Safar Tamam Howa, Gulwani continues to balance television acting with her passion for theatre.
